About the Vice President

Mary Harper Hagan has been serving as the Vice President of Human Resources since August 2019 and served as interim since April 2018. In this role, she oversees University-wide functions, including total rewards, talent management, workforce engagement, leadership and organizational development, HR business partner relationships, workplace equity, and Title IX compliance across all campuses.

Mary is a distinguished human resources professional with more than 30 years of HR experience, including nearly two decades in higher education, where she is regarded as a pioneer for elevating HR’s strategic role at universities and colleges.

Prior to assuming her current position, Mary was the Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) for St. George’s University, whose main campus is located in Grenada, West Indies. Mary previously served as Senior Vice President and CHRO at St. John’s University in Queens, New York. During her nearly 17 year tenure at St. John’s, she also led functions such as Strategic Planning, Institutional Research and Public Safety. Mary also spent 15 years at JP Morgan Chase (then Chase Manhattan Bank) in progressively higher levels of HR leadership, culminating in the role of Vice President, HR Executive for Small Business Financial Services. 

Mary is a graduate of Trinity University in Washington, D.C., where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Literature.
