Autism Coverage

The University of Miami's Aetna medical plans includes coverage of the diagnosis and treatment of autism spectrum disorders. Medical copayments and deductibles apply according to plan. Benefits are based on medical necessity and are only for enrollees in a UM/Aetna plan.

Aetna authorization must be obtained prior to an initial assessments through the University of Miami Autism Spectrum Assessment Clinic (ASAC) or Center for Autism and Related Disabilities (CARD).

  • Habilitative Speech, Occupational and Physical Therapy
  • Neurological Evaluation
  • Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) – Prior authorization required.
  • For the UHealth Total Care plan, members are required to use provided in this network.
  • For the Aetna Select 1 & 2 plans, members are required to use Aetna in-network providers.
  • For the Aetna Health Savings Medical Plan, members are encouraged to use Aetna providers. However, there are out of network benefits available. Members will be responsible for the member cost share, including deductibles, for both in and out of network providers according to plan.
